Stocks lose gains, ends lower

Stocks closed lower on Wednesday as selling in the last portion of trading pulled the Philippine Stock Exchange index to negative territory.
The index finished 23.51 points lower to 8,265.68. In the broader market, there were 109 decliners, 83 gainers and 50 shares unchanged.
Volume reached 1.43 billion worth P6.96 billion.
Among most active shares were PXP Energy Corp. down 6.96 percent to P10.16, Ayala Land, up 1.55 percent to P42.70 and Macroasia, up 5.41 percent to P23.40.
The peso gained to P50.74 against the US dollar from P50.90 on Tuesday. Volume at the Philippine Dealing System reached $533 million from the previous day's $584.90 million. DMS
