Stocks, peso close higher

Stocks went above a key mark on Thursday as the Philippine Stock Exchange index finished 39.01 points higher to 8,022.98.
In the broader market, there were 114 gainers, 77 decliners and 55 unchanged.
Volume reached 1.75 billion shares valued at P7.57 billion. But foreigners were net sellers as P4.52 billion worth of stocks were sold while P3.63 billion were bought.
Among most active shares were SM Investments Corp., up 0.31 percent to P818, RCBC, up 2.24 percent to P51.42 and Puregold Price Club, up 3.27 percent to P42.90.
The peso surged to P50.93 against the US dollar from P51.095 on Wednesday. Volume at the Philippine Dealing System reached $613.80 million from $468.80 million. DMS
