Stocks, peso up

Stocks gained on Tuesday, lifted by Meralco and Bank of the Philippine Islands.
The Philippine Stock Exchange index finished 49.62 points higher to 8,379.62. In the broader market, there were 111 decliners, 76 gainers and 51 issues unchanged.
Volume reached 889.39 million shares worth P8.88 billion. Foreigners were net buyers with P5.16 billion bought and P5.10 billion sold.
Among most actively traded shares, Meralco gained 5.3 percent to P322, Bank of the Philippines Islands rose 1.82 percent to P100.80 and East-West Banking Corp. went up by 3.32 percent to P34.25.
The peso closed at P51.18 against the US dollar from P51.205. Volume at the Philippine Dealing System reached $476.78 million from $464.70 million. DMS
