Stocks, peso up

Stocks gained on Monday despite tension felt in Asian markets after North Korea's nuclear test on Sunday.
The Philippine Stock Exchange index rose 76.63 points to 8,035.20. At the broader market, there were 115 gainers, 83 decliners and 50 unchanged.
Volume reached 887.2 million shares worth P6.45 billion. Foreigners were net buyers as P3.67 billion shares were bought and P 3.41 billion sold.
Most active shares were led by Ayala Land, up 1.9 percent to P42.80, Nickel Asia, up 5.96 percent to P7.65 and Wilcon Depot, up 4.28 percent to P9.25.
The peso strengthened to P51.165 against the US dollar from P51.170 on Thursday. Volume at the Philippine Dealing System to $426.50 million from $494.50 million. DMS
