Stocks up on first trading day of April

Stocks rose on Monday, the first trading day of the month, as the Philippine Stock Exchange closed above the 8,000-point mark.
The index finished at 8,039.45, up 59.62 points. In the broader market, there were 131 gainers, 81 decliners and 36 shares unchanged.
Volume reached 1.59 billion shares worth P4.55 billion from Wednesday's 1.7 billion shares worth P7.8 billion.
Most traded shares were led by Now Corp., uo 12.33 percent to P9.20; Bank of the Philippine Islands, down 1.71 percent to P115 and Ayala Land, down 0.24 percent to P41.
The peso closed at P52.035 against the US dollar from P52.16 on Wednesday. Volume at the Bankers Association of the Philippines reached $507 million from $878.50 million. DMS
