Subaru to Recall Vehicles Possibly Affected by Inspection Fraud
October 12, 2018
Tokyo- Subaru Corp. on Thursday informed the Japanese transport ministry that it will recall a total of 6,124 vehicles of nine models possibly affected by its vehicle inspection fraud, including in brake tests.
The nine models, made in December 2017, were the Levorg, WRX, Impreza, XV, Forester, Legacy, Exiga and BRZ as well as the 86, which is manufactured on commission from Toyota Motor Corp..
According to the ministry and Subaru, the automaker did not properly conduct preshipment inspections to check the performance of brake and other systems.
The misconduct included failures to carry out separate tests for the parking and foot brakes. A report by outside experts said braking performance data had been padded.
Irregularities were also found in speedometer tests.
Subaru will reexamine the recalled vehicles and provide repair services if any problem is found. Jiji Press
