Sumitomo to Introduce Teleworking in Nov.
October 29, 2018
Tokyo- Major Japanese trading house Sumitomo Corp. said Monday that in November it will introduce a teleworking program allowing its employees in Japan to work from home or satellite offices.
The upper limit for work under the system will be established at 14.5 hours per week, equivalent to two days' work hours, with employees able to divide the time over three or more days, according to the firm.
Through the new system, Sumitomo hopes to incorporate a work style beyond boundaries of time and place, in order to increase productivity.
Meanwhile, Sumitomo will also expand its flextime system and abolish the core time under the system, which requires employees to work at its offices between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
People will be able to decide freely their own working hours between 5 a.m. and 10 p.m. if they achieve a consensus with other members of their departments. Jiji Press
