Suzuki Aims for Sales of 5 M. Units in India in 2030
June 28, 2018
Tokyo, June 28 (Jiji Press)--Suzuki Motor Corp. Chairman Osamu Suzuki said Thursday that the company will accelerate efforts to boost annual sales of its vehicles in India to five million units by 2030.
At a general shareholders' meeting held in the city of Hamamatsu in the central prefecture of Shizuoka, Suzuki said the company must gear up on the assumption of sales of five million units in 2030.
Suzuki's passenger car sales in India in fiscal 2017 stood at 1.64 million units, representing a market share of about 50 pct in the country.
Suzuki assumes that overall annual vehicle sales in the Indian market will reach 10 million units by 2030. The figure is based on the company's projection that demand for automobiles will increase steadily in the country, given its rapidly growing economy and population of over one billion.
Construction of new plants there to match the expanding market and securing parts procurement routes are expected to be crucial tasks for the company.
Meanwhile, considering that the Indian government is tightening environmental regulations, Suzuki plans to release electric vehicles in the country in 2020. Jiji Press
