May 11, 2018
Tokyo- Suzuki Motor Corp.'s global vehicle sales may reach seven million units in 2030, as the Indian market is expected to expand rapidly, Chairman Osamu Suzuki has said.
This is up sharply from some 3.22 million units sold globally by the Japanese automaker in fiscal 2017, which ended last March.
"Challenges we've never faced lie ahead, both in terms of quality and quantity," Suzuki told a press conference on Thursday, indicating his intention to speed up efforts to secure adequate human resources and take other steps to expand business.
According to Suzuki, automobile demand in India is expected to surge to 10 million units in 2030.
"If we're able to maintain our current market share, our sales (in India) will come to 5 million units," Suzuki said. Combined with its sales in Japan, Europe and other parts of the world, Suzuki's 2030 sales are likely to total seven million units, he added.
In India, electric vehicles are expected to grow in importance amid stronger environmental regulations. "By receiving cooperation from other companies, we will fight for survival," Suzuki said.
Global sales in fiscal 2017 totaled around 5.79 million units at Nissan Motor Co. <7201> and some 5.19 million units at Honda Motor Co. Jiji Press
