June 15, 2018
Tokyo- Oriental Land Co., the operator of Tokyo Disney Resort, said Thursday that it will expand the size of the Tokyo DisneySea theme park by about 100,000 square meters, or 20 pct.
The expanded area will include four attractions featuring Disney films such as "Frozen," three restaurants and a 475-room hotel. The hotel will have a luxury room offered at over 100,000 yen per night.
Oriental Land plans to spend some 250 billion yen on the expansion, scheduled for completion in fiscal 2022. This is the resort's largest expansion since the 2001 opening of DisneySea.
Kyoichiro Uenishi, president and chief operating officer of the company, told a news conference that the expansion will boost annual sales by 50 billion yen.
The expansion "will leave visitors highly satisfied, providing an opportunity to raise prices," Uenishi said.
At Tokyo Disneyland, another theme park in the resort that opened in 1983, the company will develop an area featuring another Disney film, "Beauty and the Beast," for completion in spring 2020.
Toshio Kagami, chairman and chief executive officer of Oriental Land, said that the company will continue to make impactful investments to boost the resort's attractiveness. Jiji Press
