Toyota to Resume Vehicle Output Tues. after Hokkaido Quake-Caused Halt

Nagoya- Toyota Motor Corp. suspended operations at most of its vehicle plants in Japan on Monday as a fallout from last week's strong earthquake in Hokkaido but decided the same day to restart them from Tuesday in stages.

The leading Japanese automaker's domestic vehicle production is scheduled to fully return to normal on Thursday, the company said.

Toyota stopped assembly lines at 16 of its 18 plants after a parts plant in Hokkaido was hit by a power outage caused by the 6.7-magnitude earthquake in the northernmost prefecture.

But now the plant of Toyota Motor Hokkaido Inc., which chiefly makes transmissions, is set to restart operations on Monday night, the suspended assembly facilities can get activated again from Tuesday, Toyota said.

To go back online on Tuesday morning are all assembly lines at six plants including the Motomachi factory in the city of Toyota, Aichi Prefecture, and some of lines at the Takaoka plant in the same city, where the auto giant is based. Jiji Press
