Toyota to Support Suzuki’s Hybrid Vehicle Engine Development
May 27, 2018
Nagoya- Toyota Motor Corp. has agreed to provide technological support for the engines of hybrid vehicles being developed by Suzuki Motor Corp. for sales in the Indian and other markets, the two Japanese companies said Friday.
The move, also to be joined by Toyota-affiliated auto parts maker Denso Corp., is part of the automakers' business tie-up accord announced in February 2017.
Toyota and Suzuki also agreed to produce Suzuki-developed compact vehicle models at a Toyota joint venture in India. They will be sold in the South Asian country through the brand network of each company.
The two companies are also considering a plan to export to Africa Suzuki-developed models from India, including the ones to be made at the Toyota joint venture. They hope to sell the vehicles using their respective brands and networks, with further details to be set in later negotiations.
Based on the tie-up agreement, Toyota and Suzuki decided last November to work together to sell electric vehicles in India from around 2020. In March this year, they agreed to mutually supply compact hybrid vehicles to be produced in India for the country's market. Jiji Press
