2nd Case of Wild Boar Swine Fever Confirmed in Japan
September 20, 2018
Gifu- A second case of swine fever in wild boar has been confirmed in the central Japan city of Gifu, the Gifu prefectural government said Wednesday.
Both the first and second infected wild boars were found dead within 10 kilometers of a pig farm where a case of the infectious disease, also known as hog cholera, was confirmed earlier this month.
All cases were caused by the same type of swine fever virus, according to the National Agriculture and Food Research Organization.
The virus had not been found before in the country and likely came from abroad, according to the organization.
The prefectural government also said three more wild boars, all found dead within 10 kilometers of the pig farm, have tested positive for swine fever virus.
