42% back “child insuranceˮ for free preschool Jiji poll

TOKYO- A Jiji Press opinion survey showed Friday that 42.4 percent of the respondents support a proposed "child insurance" system to make child care and preschool education free of charge by raising social insurance premiums.
Those opposing the plan came to 37.4 percent, according to the survey, conducted for four days through Monday on 2,000 adults across the country. Valid responses came from 65.1 percent.
Also in the survey, 17.6 percent said they expect much from a "revolution" in human resources development, a new key policy of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, while 33.2 percent said that they have modest expectations.
Meanwhile, 13.7 percent said they cannot expect anything from the policy and 29.9 percent said they have low expectations. (Jiji Press)
