61% of job-hunting college students secure employment offers
June 10, 2017
Tokyo- The share of job-hunting college students who had secured informal employment offers next spring as of June 1 came to 61.0 pct, up 9.7 percentage points from a year earlier, job information provider Recruit Career Co. said Friday.
The rise has made it clear that companies in Japan are eager to hire new graduates, people familiar with the situation said.
The Japan Business Federation, better known as Keidanren, called on its member companies to start job interviews for students graduating spring 2018 on June 1.
But some major companies launched their hiring campaigns before the requested start date, as they struggled to secure enough students last year, informed sources said.
More small companies and startups, which are not Keidanren members, also have started their selection procedures earlier amid job-hunting students enjoying a seller's market.
The survey was conducted for five days through Monday for university students who signed up as participants through a Recruit job information website. It received responses from 1,218 of them. (Jiji Press)
