67 Pct Worried about Problems from Internet Use: Govt Survey

Tokyo, Nov. 9 (Jiji Press)--A Japanese government survey showed on Friday that 67.6 pct of respondents are worried or somewhat worried about possible problems from Internet use.
The figure in the Cabinet Office survey, covering 3,000 people aged 18 or over in Japan, was 11.2 percentage points higher than in the previous 2015 survey, which questioned people aged 20 or over.
With multiple answers allowed, 79.6 pct, the largest group, said that they are worried about possible leaks of personal information, followed by 51.7 pct, who cited extortion of money or goods, and 45.2 pct, who are concerned that their children or other family members could be put in danger.
The share of respondents who said they have put Internet safety measures into place came to 53.1 pct.
Meanwhile, 16.9 pct said they have not taken any measures. Of them, 60.1 pct said they do not know what to do.
The interview-based survey was conducted on Sept. 20-30, with valid answers given by 55.5 pct. Jiji Press
