6,900 Tokyo Olympic Tickets Bought with False IDs
September 28, 2019
Tokyo- The 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics organizing committee said Friday around 6,900 Olympic tickets were bought with false identifications in the first-round online domestic ticket lottery in May.
For the tickets, a total of 180 million yen has already been paid. The committee decided to invalidate the falsely obtained tickets without paying back the money.
About 30,000 false IDs were used in the lottery. Of them, 1,200 IDs won tickets.
The wrongdoing "goes beyond what an individual can do in number and scale," a committee official said, indicating that it was an organized act.
The official also said holders of the false IDs may have applied for tickets online from abroad. Jiji Press
