Abe Asks Ruling Bloc to Discus Diet Biz Extension
June 18, 2018
Tokyo- Prime Minister Shinzo Abe called on the ruling coalition Monday to examine the idea of extending the ongoing ordinary session of the Diet, currently set to end on Wednesday.
"I hope for sufficient discussions (on the extension) at both chambers of the Diet," Abe said at a meeting with Toshihiro Nikai, secretary-general of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party, at the prime minister's office.
Abe, also LDP president, made the remarks as the government and the ruling bloc aim to get key remaining bills, including legislation to introduce casino-featuring integrated resorts, enacted by extending the ordinary parliamentary business.
After the meeting, Nikai told reporters that he had the meeting with Abe as the Diet session is coming to an end. "We haven't considered yet how long the extended session should be," Nikai added. Jiji Press
