November 13, 2019
Tokyo--Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe attended Tuesday a ceremony commemorating the 25th anniversary of the independence of Palau and the establishment of diplomatic ties between Japan and the Pacific island nation.
"We will enhance efforts to deepen Japan-Palau ties," Abe said, mentioning the planned launch of regular direct flights connecting the two countries.
Palau President Tommy Remengesau also attended the ceremony held at a Tokyo hotel.
Abe expressed gratitude to Remengesau for taking part in the "Sokuirei-Seiden-no-Gi" state ceremony, held last month to proclaim Emperor Naruhito's enthronement. Jiji Press
