Abe Emphasizes Fairness in Selection of Casino Locations
June 2, 2018
Tokyo- Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Friday underscored the importance of a fair process to select locations for casino-featuring integrated resorts.
"It's crucial to conduct screenings in a fair and unbiased manner, with transparency," Abe told a House of Representatives Cabinet Committee meeting.
A bill to introduce integrated resorts, now under parliamentary deliberation, calls for selecting up to three locations from prefectures bidding to host such facilities.
Abe said that details of the selection process will be considered.
In response to recent public opinion polls suggesting that many people in the country are negative about casinos, the prime minister said the government will conduct a nationwide campaign to highlight differences between traditional casinos and Japanese-style integrated resorts. Jiji Press
