Abe Gains U.N. Chief’s Support for Solution of Abductions

New York- Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe gained backing from U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Tuesday for an early resolution of the issue of abductions of Japanese citizens by North Korea decades ago.
The two leaders held talks on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly session.
Abe and Guterres confirmed the importance of full implementation by the international society of sanctions on North Korea in line with relevant U.N. Security Council resolutions, in order to prompt Pyongyang to accelerate moves for its denuclearization.
The Japanese leader also met with Panamanian President Juan Carlos Varela. Abe said Japan will further deepen ties with the Central American country. Jiji Press
