Abe Mulling Visit to Russia in Jan.
November 16, 2018
Tokyo--Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is considering visiting Russia next January for a meeting with President Vladimir Putin on a proposed bilateral peace treaty, informed sources said Friday.
The meeting is likely to be held around the time of an annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, in late January.
Abe told reporters after his latest summit with Putin on Wednesday about his intention to visit Russia early next year.
The Davos meeting is slated for Jan. 22-25. Abe will take into account the schedule of the ordinary parliamentary session, seen starting that month, to make a final decision.
Prior to the expected visit to Russia, Abe will also hold talks with Putin on the sidelines of a two-day summit of the Group of 20 advanced and emerging economies in Buenos Aires from Nov. 30. Jiji Press
