Abe Orders Continued Vigilance over Unusual Typhoon
July 30, 2018
Tokyo- Prime Minister Shinzo Abe told related ministers on Monday to maintain vigilance against floods and landslides from Typhoon Jongdari, which took an unusual westbound course to hit central to western Japan over the weekend.
The 12th typhoon this year "could have prolonged effects on western Japan," Abe told a meeting of the government's emergency disaster response task force.
"Following the recent series of heavy rains, an extreme heat wave and the unusual typhoon, many people were forced to suffer the hardship of staying anxiously in shelters," he stressed.
The prime minister instructed the ministers to do all they can for reconstruction in affected areas and to take measures to prevent heatstroke. Jiji Press
