Abe signals intention to promote aid to horn of Africa
August 29, 2019
Yokohama--Prime Minister Shinzo Abe signaled on Thursday Japan's intention to step up support for human resources and infrastructure development in the Horn of Africa region in the continent's east.
In a side event of the ongoing Seventh Tokyo International Conference on African Development, or TICAD 7, in Yokohama, south of Tokyo, Abe said real stability in the region would consolidate growth and prosperity in Africa.
The Horn of Africa, including Somalia and neighboring countries, is facing many destabilizing factors. However, positive moves have recently been observed, including the restoration of diplomatic relations between Ethiopia and Eritrea.
Abe stressed that these positive moves should not be reversed, noting that peace is fragile, particularly in its emerging stage. Jiji Press
