Abe Visits Meiji Jingu Shrine
November 5, 2018
Tokyo--Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe visited Tokyo's Meiji Jingu on Sunday, his first visit to the Shinto shrine since April 2014.
Abe told reporters that he visited the shrine to mark the 150th anniversary of the beginning of Japan's 1868-1912 Meiji era.
Meiji Jingu honors Emperor Mutsuhito, posthumously called Emperor Meiji, and his wife, Empress Haruko.
Abe said he prayed for the peace and prosperity of Japan and the prosperity of the Japanese Imperial Family.
He signed the register book as Prime Minister Shinzo Abe while paying for a "tamagushi" ritual offering at his own expense. Jiji Press
