Abe Voices Support for Keeping Iran Nuclear Deal Alive
September 27, 2018
New York- Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said Wednesday that the country will continue supporting the implementation of the 2015 historic nuclear deal between Iran and world powers.
Abe showed the intention at a meeting with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in New York.
While Rouhani sought Japan's cooperation to keep the nuclear deal alive, Abe stressed that it is important to continue implementing the agreement. Japan is ready to cooperate, Abe added.
This was the seventh meeting between Abe and Rouhani.
The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump is threatening to increase economic pressure on Iran, criticizing Tehran's missile development and its alleged support for terrorism.
At the meeting, Abe asked for Iran's cooperation for the full implementation of the U.N. Security Council's sanctions resolutions against North Korea.
Abe and Rouhani confirmed that Japan and Iran will work together for realizing the denuclearization of North Korea. Jiji Press
