Abe Vows to Beef Up Efforts for Japan-EU EPA

May 16, 2018

Tokyo- Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe pledged Wednesday to make the utmost effort to bring an economic partnership agreement between Japan and the European Union into force quickly.

"Our government will work as one and do all we can to sign and bring the agreement into force at an early date in order to further bolster economic relations with Europe," Abe said when he received a courtesy visit from members of the EU-Japan Business Round Table.

He made the remarks after including Danny Risberg, acting cochairman of the group, called for an early move to release the EPA, after negotiations on deal was concluded in December.

Japan and the EU currently plan to hold a signing ceremony for the EPA in mid-July in Brussels during Abe's visit to Europe.
