Tokyo- Prime Minister Shinzo Abe expressed Japan's willingness to promote procurement of advanced defense equipment from the United States and elsewhere during a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump in New York on Wednesday, the Japanese government's chief spokesman said Friday.
Abe told Trump at the meeting that it is important for Japan to continue introducing advanced equipment, including from the United States, to strength its defense capability amid the severe security situation, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said at a press conference.
Abe and Trump, meeting on the sidelines of U.N. General Assembly meetings, agreed that the two countries will start talks on lowering tariffs on agricultural and other products. Trump vowed not to impose additional tariffs on Japanese vehicles while the trade talks are ongoing. Jiji Press
