September 28, 2018
Tokyo- Japan and China are preparing to hold a summit between Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and President Xi Jinping in Beijing on Oct. 24, informed sources said Thursday.
Abe plans to visit China for three days from Oct. 23, the 40th anniversary of the entry into force of the two countries' peace and amity treaty. The upcoming visit may include cities other than the capital.
Excluding the occasions of trips to attend international meetings, Abe will be the first Japanese prime minister to visit China since Yoshihiko Noda paid a trip in December 2011.
Abe and Xi had their seventh summit in the Russian Far East city of Vladivostok on Sept. 12 this year.
In the Beijing summit, the two leaders are expected to discuss bilateral cooperation on economic issues and the denuclearization of North Korea.
Abe is also likely to attend a symposium on cooperation between Japanese and Chinese businesses in infrastructure development in third countries. Jiji Press
