Audi Reports Emissions Test Irregularities in Japan
September 28, 2018
Tokyo- The transport ministry said Friday that it received a report from a Japanese unit of German automaker Audi AG about irregularities in sampling tests on fuel economy and exhaust emissions for 37 vehicles.
Similar misconduct has been discovered at companies including Subaru Corp., Nissan Motor Co. and Suzuki Motor Corp..
Audi Japan K.K. explained that the group failed to measure fuel economy and emissions properly in sampling tests for the 37 vehicles but that it treated the obtained figures as valid without taking fresh measurements, according to the ministry.
The vehicles accounted for about 5 pct of the 692 vehicles tested between July 2014 and July this year.
The ministry instructed automakers to investigate whether there was any misconduct involving vehicle inspections.
The ministry said Volkswagen Group Japan K.K. and Volvo Car Japan Ltd. have reported that there was no misconduct found in their groups' inspections. Jiji Press
