“Black Widowˮ admits killing husband
July 10, 2017
KYOTO- A 70-year-old Japanese woman accused of being a "black widow" killer on Monday admitted fatally poisoning her husband.
In the first questioning of Chisako Kakehi in a lay judge trial at Kyoto District Court, she accepted the truth of charge of murdering her husband, Isao Kakehi, then 75, in 2013.
Kakehi is accused of the killings of her husband and her two common-law husbands, and the attempted murder of a boyfriend with poison in western Japan between 2007 and 2013.
In the first hearing on June 26, Kakehi said only, "I'm leaving everything to my lawyers." The defense asserted Kakehi's innocence, claiming that she could not be held liable for crimes because she has dementia. (Jiji Press)
