June 20, 2018

Shizuoka- A nine-year-old boy was slashed in his head near his elementary school in Fujieda, Shizuoka Prefecture, on Tuesday, and police later arrested an 18-year-old man for allegedly trespassing into the school.

The police believe that the man, a resident of the central Japan city, is responsible for the 20-centimeter cut in the fourth grader's head, police sources said. The injury is not considered life-threatening.

The boy was on his way home with a friend in the same grade, when he was attacked, according to police sources and municipal education officials. At the time, there were dozens of other students around the scene, 200-300 meters north of the school, the sources said.

Students who witnessed the attack rushed to the school and reported the incident. Teachers then headed for the scene, encountering the man on the way. As the man suddenly dashed toward the school, the teachers seized him.

An edged tool was left in the attack scene, the sources said. Jiji Press
