China’s Wang seen visiting Japan in April
March 21, 2018
Tokyo- The Japanese and Chinese governments are in talks on a plan for Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who has been named to double as state councillor, to visit Japan in April, informed sources have said.
Wang is expected to meet with Japanese officials, including Foreign Minister Taro Kono, to pave the way for holding a summit among the two countries plus South Korea in Japan at an early date and realizing Chinese Premier Li Keqiang's visit to Japan for the trilateral meeting, the sources said.
Japan, the chair of the possible three-way summit, is mulling holding the meeting in Tokyo after the country's Golden Week holiday period from late April to early May, according to the sources.
If the summit is realized, Li and South Korean President Moon Jae-in would make their first visits to Japan since taking office, in 2013 and last year, respectively.
Li told a press conference after the closing session of the National People's Congress in Beijing on Tuesday that he is ready to positively consider making an official visit to Japan in the first half of this year, citing clear signs of improvement in China-Japan relations. Jiji Press
