Crown Princess Enters Ishikawa for Blood Donation Campaign
July 10, 2019
Komatsu, Ishikawa Pref.- Crown Princess Kiko arrived in Ishikawa Prefecture, central Japan, on a civilian plane from Tokyo on Wednesday to attend a convention for promoting blood donation.
The 55th National Blood Donation Promotion Campaign will be held in Kanazawa, the capital of Ishikawa, Thursday.
The annual convention is one of the seven major regional events that Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako had attended when they were Crown Prince and Crown Princess.
Crown Princess Kiko, the wife of Crown Prince Akishino, is an honorary vice president of the Japanese Red Cross Society.
She took on the role of attending the convention as part of streamlining of the Imperial Family's official duties spurred by the Imperial succession in May.
The previous convention, set for July last year in Okayama, was canceled due to a heavy rain disaster that hit the city and many other locations in western Japan. Jiji Press
