Death toll from Northern Kyushu deluge rises to 34

FUKUOKA/SAGA/OITA- The death toll from heavy rain and flooding that hit the northern part of the Kyushu southwestern Japan region has risen to 34, with three more bodies identified on Monday.
Of the victims, 31 were from Fukuoka Prefecture and three from Oita Prefecture, southeast of Fukuoka.
According to the Fukuoka prefectural police department, a male body found in Asakura in the prefecture on Wednesday was identified as that of Shomitsu Adachi, 70, a resident in the city.
A female body discovered in a coastal area of the Ariake Sea in the city of Saga, the capital of Saga Prefecture, west of Fukuoka, and another found in an area along the sea in the city of Kashima in Saga Prefecture were confirmed to be Kazuko Ide, 59, and Yukie Kojima, 70, respectively, according to the Saga prefectural police department.
Both women were residents of Asakura. Their bodies were found on July 8.
Seven people--six in Asakura and one in Ukiha, another city in Fukuoka--are still unaccounted for. Police officers, Self-Defese Forces troops and others are continuing the search for the missing people.
On Monday afternoon, the Asakura city government issued an evacuation order for a total of 15,270 people at 5,673 households in three districts in the city, because torrential rain is forecast to strike again. The village of Toho in Fukuoka also ordered 443 residents at 180 households in three districts to evacuate.
In the city of Hita in Oita, residents in two districts were advised to evacuate early. (Jiji Press)
