Electronics labor body adopts 3,000 yen pay hike demand
January 27, 2018
Yokohama- The Japanese Electrical, Electronic and Information Union adopted on Friday a uniform demand for a monthly pay-scale hike of at least 3,000 yen in the industry's upcoming "shunto" wage negotiations.
The umbrella body of labor unions at Japanese electronics makers decided on the policy at a central committee meeting in Yokohama, south of Tokyo.
The request is unchanged for the third consecutive year. It is the fifth straight year for the group to seek a pay-scale increase.
Major member labor unions will submit requests to management by Feb. 15 to start full-scale wage negotiations. Management will give a uniform response on March 14.
In the 2017 wage negotiations, the member unions won a pay-scale hike of 1,000 yen.
Labor unions of Toshiba Corp. and Sharp Corp. are considering returning to the industry's unified annual wage negotiations this year. The unions withdrew from the unified talks due to financial troubles at the two companies.
The Toshiba and Sharp unions are expected make decisions by mid-February. Jiji Press
