Emperor, Empress Meet with Ecuador’s Presidential Couple

Tokyo- Japanese Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko met with visiting Ecuadorian President Lenin Moreno and his wife at the Imperial Palace on Wednesday.
During the 25-minute meeting, the president expressed gratitude for Japan's assistance to his country over past years in such areas as disaster prevention. In reply, the Emperor said he was glad to hear that the support was contributing to Ecuador, according to the Imperial Household Agency.
Moreno also told that there are many endemic species on the Galapagos Islands. Then he invited the Imperial couple to visit Ecuador and offered to bring them to the islands in the Pacific.
