June 24, 2019

Tokyo- Former Nissan Motor Co. Chairman Carlos Ghosn appeared at Tokyo District Court on Monday to attend pretrial procedures for allegedly under reporting his pay.

The case also involves Nissan as a company and former Representative Director Greg Kelly, who worked as an aide to Ghosn.

Ghosn, 65, and Kelly, 62, have been indicted for underreporting Ghosn's pay in annual securities reports in violation of the financial instruments and exchange law. Nissan has also been indicted as a company.

On Monday, Ghosn entered the court just after 10 a.m. (1 a.m. GMT) with his defense team. Kelly, dressed in a black suit, made his entry after his attorney. From the Nissan side, only its defense is believed to have attended, according to informed sources.

The day's session was the first in the pretrial procedures that also involved Kelly and Nissan.

The court discussed how the prosecution should disclose evidence, as well as the schedule for pretrial sessions to the end of the year, according to the sources.

It was also confirmed that procedures for Ghosn, Kelley and Nissan will be held together.

Ghosn and Kelly met for the first time since they were arrested in November last year but did not exchange words, according to the sources.

Monday's session also covered Ghosn's alleged aggravated breach of trust in violation of corporate law, including transfers of Nissan funds to a firm owned by a Saudi businessman.

The pretrial procedures began in May. Ghosn attended the first session. Jiji Press
