Ex-UNHCR Head Ogata granted notable title

Tokyo--The Japanese government Tuesday decided to grant the title of Junior Third Rank to Sadako Ogata, former U.N. high commissioner for refugees.
Ogata was the first Japanese to hold the key U.N. post. She died Oct. 22.
"She represented Japan as a U.N. official and made many achievements, such as saving refugees' lives," Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga told a press conference. "She was a world-class person." Jiji Press
