EXCLUSIVE: ANA to Cancel Some Int’l Flights for Engine Checks

August 2, 2018

Tokyo- All Nippon Airways plans to cancel some international flights in September and October due to protracted work to inspect Rolls-Royce PLC engines used in Boeing 787 aircraft, Jiji Press has learned.

The ANA Holdings Inc. subsidiary has so far limited flight cancellations caused by the engine checks to domestic routes.

To be called off are some flights between Narita International Airport, east of Tokyo, and Los Angeles, between Narita and Hong Kong, and between Chubu Centrair International Airport in Aichi Prefecture, central Japan, and Hong Kong.

ANA currently operates two round trips every day on the Narita routes. Of them, one will be maintained, while the other will be reduced to about a half in September and October, informed sources said.

Most once-a-day round trips on the Centrair-Hong Kong route are expected to be canceled.

ANA hopes to curb flight cancellations as much as possible by coordinating aircraft use, the sources said.

The airline has canceled a number of domestic flights since July due to the Rolls-Royce engine checks following an instruction from the transport ministry. Jiji Press
