Fire burns 7 buildings in Tsukiji outer market

TOKYO- A fire broke out at the outer market of the famed Tsukiji fish market in Tokyo's Chuo Ward on Thursday, affecting seven buildings covering 935 square meters.
No one was injured and nobody is unaccounted for, the Tokyo Fire Department said.
About 60 fire engines were mobilized to put out the blaze that began around 4:50 p.m. (7:50 a.m. GMT). The fire was extinguished about 15 hours later.
The affected buildings include a cooking tool shop and a ramen restaurant.
On Friday morning, the fire department and local police started to investigate the extent of damage and the cause of the fire.
The fire site, located some 200 meters southwest of Tsukiji Station on Tokyo Metro Co.'s Hibiya Line, faces the main street of the Tsukiji outer market, lined with more than 400 fish stores and restaurants. Jiji Press
