FM Kono welcomes US Nuclear Posture Review
February 4, 2018
Tokyo- Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono welcomed on Saturday the Nuclear Posture Review released by the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump.
"Japan highly appreciates the latest NPR which clearly articulates the U.S. resolve to ensure the effectiveness of its deterrence and its commitment to providing extended deterrence to its allies including Japan," Kono said in a statement.
Given the "rapidly" worsened international security environment due to North Korea's missile and nuclear development, Tokyo will closely consult with Washington on extended deterrence, he said.
Kono also said Japan will closely cooperate with the United States to promote "realistic and tangible nuclear disarmament, while appropriately addressing the actual security threats." Jiji Press
