Food, service price hikes to hit Japan on Saturday

June 1, 2019

Tokyo--Japan will see price hikes for some food and beverage products as well as services on Saturday.

The price increases, reflecting soaring prices for ingredients, personnel and logistics costs, are likely to affect households across the country.

Nissin Food Products Co. will raise the suggested retail prices of some 160 items, including its Cup Noodles and other instant noodles, by 4-8 pct.

The price of regular-size Cup Noodles products will increase from 194 yen to 208 yen including tax.

The prices of Sanyo Foods Co.'s Sapporo Ichiban instant noodles and Toyo Suisan Kaisha Ltd.'s <2875> Akai Kitsune Udon instant noodle will also rise.

Haagen-Dazs Japan Inc. will raise the prices of some 20 ice cream products by about 25-90 yen, following similar price hikes by Meiji Co. and Lotte Co. in March.

The prices of Oi Ocha tea and some other mainstay items of Ito En Ltd. <2593> will also go up.

Fujicco Co. <2908> will lift the price of its Omamesan boiled bean products.

Toho Cinemas Ltd. will raise the price of movie tickets for general customers from 1,800 yen to 1,900 yen, marking the first such price hike in 26 years.

Behind the price increase is "a rise in costs, mainly for part-timers," a public relations official at the company said. Jiji Press
