May 8, 2018
Tokyo- The finance ministers and central bank chiefs of the Group of 20 major and emerging economies will hold a meeting in the southwestern Japan city of Fukuoka for two days from June 8, 2019, Finance Minister Taro Aso said Tuesday.
The top finance officials are expected to adopt a joint statement on global economic and financial issues that will provide a basis for discussions at a G-20 summit set to be held in Osaka Prefecture later the same month, according to Aso.
Japan will chair the G-20 summit for the first time. Fukuoka, where Aso has his home electoral district, failed to win its bid to host the top leaders' meeting.
Industry minister Hiroshige Seko separately announced that an international meeting of ministers and business representatives will be held in Tokyo on Oct. 23 to discuss ways to use hydrogen-related technologies to reduce heat-trapping gases.
Ahead of the G-20 summit, Japan, as its chair, aims to confirm innovative efforts and possibilities of international collaboration for promoting the use of hydrogen, he said. Jiji Press
