June 19, 2018
Saga- The No. 4 reactor at Kyushu Electric Power Co.'s Genkai nuclear power plant in the southwestern Japan prefecture of Saga began power generation and transmission on Tuesday after it came back online on Saturday.
The 1.18 million-kilowatt reactor is slated to increase its output gradually and operate at full capacity from the end of June, according to the power supplier.
After passing a final inspection by the Nuclear Regulation Authority, the reactor is expected to switch to commercial mode in mid-July.
Kyushu Electric initially planned to restart the No. 4 reactor in March, but the schedule was delayed due to a problem in a cooling water pump.
Including the Genkai No. 4 unit, three reactors of the company are now in operation. The other two are the No. 3 reactor at the Genkai plant and the No. 1 reactor at the Sendai plant in Kagoshima Prefecture, also southwestern Japan. Jiji Press
