Ghosn video to be released on Tuesday
April 9, 2019
Tokyo--A video of former Nissan Motor Co. <7201> Chairman Carlos Ghosn defending himself against charges of financial misconduct will be released on Tuesday by his lawyers, informed sources said Monday.
The lawyers, including Junichiro Hironaka, will show the nine-minute video, which was recorded while Ghosn was on bail, at a press conference in Tokyo, according to the sources.
Ghosn was released on bail on March 6, more than 100 days after his first arrest in November.
He was rearrested on Thursday on suspicion of funneling Nissan funds to himself via a distributor in Oman.
On Wednesday, Ghosn tweeted: "I'm getting ready to tell the truth about what's happening. Press conference on Thursday, April 11."
The decision by the defense side to release the video came after Tokyo District Court on Friday approved the detention of Ghosn until next Sunday, making the planned press conference impossible. Jiji Press
