Hamada Wins 3rd Term as Kagawa Governor

Takamatsu, Kagawa Pref.- Keizo Hamada won a third term as governor of Kagawa Prefecture, western Japan, in an election on Sunday, beating another candidate.
Hamada, a 66-year-old independent, drew broad-based support for his achievements made in the past eight years, including increased numbers of businesses and foreign visitors in the prefecture.
The former Finance Ministry bureaucrat was supported by the Liberal Democratic Party, the Democratic Party for the People, Komeito and the Social Democratic Party.
He defeated Eiji Himeda, 62, a former medical cooperative executive and independent backed by the Japanese Communist Party.
Hamada garnered 201,599 votes against 34,814 votes for Himeda. Voter turnout stood at a record low of 29.34 pct. Jiji Press
