Heavy rain hits northern Japan, killing one
August 26, 2017
TOKYO- Torrential rain lashed Japan's central to northern regions of Tohoku, Hokuriku and Hokkaido on Friday, leaving one dead and three others missing.
The heavy rain was caused by a low pressure system with a front stretching from the Sea of Japan to the Sea of Okhotsk, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
In Miyako in the northeastern prefecture of Iwate, a small wagon with four men on board tumbled into a swollen river, according to the prefectural police department.
The vehicle was discovered later, and a 29-year-old local resident believed to be one of the four was found dead.
The police are searching for the three missing people. Jiji Press
