May 8, 2018

Tokyo- Honda Motor Co.'s N-Box minivehicle topped Japan's new vehicle sales rankings for the eighth straight month in April, industry data showed Tuesday.

Sales of the N-Box totaled 19,884 units.

The top four spots were occupied by minivehicles with engine displacements of up to 660 cc., due to the popularity of small vans released last year.

The sales rankings were based on data from the Japan Automobile Dealers Association and the Japan Light Motor Vehicle and Motorcycle Association.

Of the top 10 models, six were minivehicles. In the category, demand for models with sliding doors grew.

Suzuki Motor Corp.'s Spacia rose by one notch from March to second place, with 12,240 units sold.

Daihatsu Motor Co.'s Move and Tanto ranked third and fourth, with 11,809 units and 10,268 units, respectively.

Toyota Motor Corp.'s small hybrid Aqua was the best performer outside the minivehicle category, ranking fifth with 9,495 units.
