Household spending up for 1st time in 16 months
July 28, 2017
TOKYO- Consumption spending by households in Japan in June grew 2.3 percent from a year before in price-adjusted real terms, marking the first rise in 16 months, the internal affairs ministry said Friday.
The upturn reflected strong demand for home renovation and brisk sales of new automobiles, the ministry said.
Average spending by households with two or more members came to 268,802 yen.
Consumption is on a recovery track, the ministry said, adopting a more positive evaluation than for the May result, for which the ministry said consumption, while remaining weak, showed signs of a recovery. (Jiji Press)
